How to install claude-mem on Claude Code

Requires Node.js 18+ and Claude Code installed.

Install

Via npx or plugin marketplace. First launch pulls dependencies (better-sqlite3, PM2) — about 30 seconds, one time only.

npx claude-mem install
/plugin marketplace add thedotmack/claude-mem
/plugin install claude-mem

Restart

Restart Claude Code. Plugin runs in the background, no action needed from you.

Check Status

Verify it's running via process check, logs, or web viewer.

Use It

Just work in Claude Code as usual. The plugin captures tool calls, compresses with Claude agent-sdk, stores in local SQLite + Chroma.

Example Queries

  • → "What did we work on yesterday?"
  • → "Find all bugfixes from last week"
  • → "Show me database-related changes"

Privacy

Wrap sensitive content in <private>...</private> tags to exclude from capture. All data stored in ~/.claude-mem/, no external API calls.
